Village Manager Residency - Greendale
A CHARTER ORDINANCE RELATING RESIDENCY OF THE VILLAGE MANAGER IN THE VILLAGE OF GREENDALE
The Village Board of the Village of Greendale do ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. The Village of Greendale, pursuant to section 66-01, Stats., hereby elects not to be governed by those portions of section 64.09(3) relating to residence of the Village Manager as a qualification for office subsequent to appointment. SECTION 2. Any person employed by the Village as Village Manager shall be required, as a condition of continued permanent employment, to be a resident of the Village of Greendale. A permanent residence in the Village shall be established within six months from the date of appointment or within six months from the completion of any probationary period, whichever is later.
SECTION 3. This is a Charter Ordinance and shall not take effect until approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon at the election to be held on April 7, 1998 as prescribed by section 66.01(7) and 9.20(4) to (6), Stats.
Passed and adopted by the Village Board of the Village of Greendale, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, this 17th day of February, 1998.

If you desire to vote on the question, make a cross (X) in the square beneath the question after "YES" if in favor of the question or make a cross (X) in the square after "NO" if opposed to the question.
Shall the following Charter Ordinance be approved?
A CHARTER ORDINANCE RELATING TO RESIDENCE OF THE VILLAGE MANAGER IN THE VILLAGE OF GREENDALE
SECTION 1. The Village of Greendale, pursuant to section 66.01, Stats., hereby elects not to be governed by those portions of section 64.09 (3) relating to residence of the Village Manager as a qualification for office subsequent to appointment.

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT AND EFFECT OF VOTE
The Charter Ordinance Referendum Question will ask Greendale electors to vote "YES" or "NO" on the question as set forth above.
A "YES" vote on the question is in favor of the Charter Ordinance and is a vote to require the person selected as the Greendale Village Manager to establish residency within the Village of Greendale no later than six months after his/her appointment or probationary period.
A "No" vote on the question is opposed to the Charter Ordinance and a is a vote not to require the Village Manager to establish residency in the Village of Greendale at any time.
In the event a majority of electors voting "YES" on the question set forth above, the Charter Ordinance shall be enacted. If the majority vote "NO" on the question. set forth above, the Charter Ordinance will not become a law.
RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR A MUNICIPAL CHARTER ORDINANCE REFERENDUM
WHEREAS, the Village Board of the Village of Greendale has passed a Charter Ordinance relating to residency of the Village Manager to take affect upon approval of a majority of the voters at the April 7, 1998 election; and
WHEREAS, the Village Board of -the Village of Greendale hereby directs the Village Clerk to place a referendum question on the ballot.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Greendale, as follows:
1. Place on Ballot. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to place on the ballot for the election held on April 7, 1998, the proposition attached hereto as Exhibit A for the purpose of submitting it to the qualified electors of the Village of Greendale.
2. Notice to Electors. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to comply with the notice requirements set forth in the Wisconsin Statutes.
3. Polling Places and Hours. The Village electors shall vote in such places and at such hours as defined in the Wisconsin Statutes for its regular elections.
4. Referendum Ballot Form. The ballot to be used shall be prepared in accordance with the provisions of section 5.64,(2) and 7.08(l)(a), Stats. The ballot shall be substantially in the form attached hereto as Exhibit A.
5. Absentee Ballot. The Village Clerk shall receive applications for absentee ballots and initial the same when issued as provided for by law in the regular election.
6. Canvass. The Village Clerk shall comply with Chapter 7 of the Wisconsin Statutes with respect to counting and canvassing of the ballots.
