What state law requires that ordinances be read a certain number of times before they are voted on?
There is no state law which governs the
reading of ordinances prior to their being voted on by the governing
body. Many municipalities, however, have local rules of procedure which
do require a certain number of readings. Local rules of procedure can
often be waived by a requisite number of governing body members. Because
any requirement that ordinances be given a certain number of readings
is local in nature, it can be modified or eliminated if the governing
body desires.
