ORDINANCE RELATIVE TO WILD LIFE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES:

THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin does hereby ordain as follows:

11-2-1 (a) and (e) of the Portage Code of Ordinance are hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows:

(a) Discharge and, Possession of Firearms Regulated. No person, except a police officer or other law enforcement officer in the performance of an official duty, or a person working for a firm designated by the Common Council to harvest wildlife pursuant to a DNR approved Wild Life Management Program shall fire or discharge any firearm, rifle, spring gun, air gun or pneumatic pellet gun of any description, or bow and arrow, within the City or have any firearm, rifle, spring gun, air gun or pneumatic pellet gun in his possession or under his con trol unless it is unloaded and enclosed or encased within a carrying case or other suitable container pursuant to State law.

(e) Hunting Prohibited. Hunting is prohibited within the corporate limits of the City of Portage. This provision does not apply to persons authorized by firms hired by the City of Portage to conduct wildlife harvest pursuant to DNR approved Wild Life Management Programs.
