Mercury Thermometer Ban - City of Madison

The Common Council of the City of Madison do ordain as follows: Section 7.27 entitled "Sale of Mercury Fever or Basal Thermometers" of the Madison General Ordinances is created to read as follows:

7.27 SALE OF MERCURY FEVER OR BASAL THERMOMETERS.

(1) It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell or offer for sale at retail any fever thermometer or basal thermometer containing mercury.

(2) Any person, firm or corporation who violates the provisions of this ordinance may be subject to a forfeiture of not less than twenty dollars ($20), nor more than two hundred dollars ($200) for each offense. Each day of violation shall constitute a separate offense.

(3) This section shall become effective on January 1, 2001.
